Year everyone, well at least it was until the 23rd of January. Once
again we’ve had to make the tough call and abandon the race meeting at Pukekohe.
As you would
well recall, it certainly rained that night and there was plenty of surface
flooding. The real problems that we had which caused the abandonment of the
meeting wasn’t the fact that the rain was easing, it was the fact that the
entrance to the pits had more than six inches of water which simply wasn’t
going to go anywhere. There was no obvious place for it to drain and short of
pumping it out, which was impractical; there was no way the circuit was going
to be able to used that day. At 10:30 we made the tough call and abandoned the
meeting.
The second
issue that worried us was that the creek only had a few more inches before it
was going to flood into the pits as well. Again this was serious problem with
high tide not due for several hours and water clearing down the creek a serious
problem.
For those
entering the February 20th meeting we will simply role your refunds
over. Anyone else who entered the event, please contact the NZIGP office and we
will arrange a refund.
The next
meeting is Sunday February 20th at Hampton Downs. We look forward to
seeing you there. For those who are interested, you can contact Hampton Downs
to find out about hiring their new garages. I’m not exactly sure who to
contact, but they will no doubt be willing and able to rent you these.
For the 20 February
meeting, we’ve also decided to give you an option of either using the online
entry system, or using a paper based system, but at an extra fee of $10 per
entry to recognize the fact that we have to pay for data to be input.
We have had
some ongoing issues with the online system but to be honest it makes
administration of our race meetings a lot easier for the Auckland Car Club.
Winter
Series 2011
We
are please to announce that the Auckland Car Club will take over the Winter
Series for the area. The dates for the Winter Series are as follows;
19th
June (HD)
17th
July (Puke)
14th
August (HD)
11th
September (HD)
Classes
running will be as follows;
- Fast racing saloons
- Slow racing saloons
- Single seaters
- Sports cars
- Plus incited other classes
As
can be seen three of the rounds are at Hampton Downs which at least have
garages if it is going to be cold and wet and one at Pukekohe. There will be CC
classes for the various categories with medals handed out at the end of the
season. For the Hampton Downs rounds, the bar will be available afterwards for
volunteers, racers and their crew.
